The Office of Patents and Trademarks of the United States refused a request from Apple to register the trademark iPad Mini. That department informed Apple of its decision by letter in January, in which he argues that the term "mini" is merely descriptive.
According to the department, the brand that Apple wanted to register "merely describe a feature or function" and therefore does not create "a unique meaning." Apple can still appeal the decision.
Apple introduced the iPad in October Mini, a smaller version, lighter and cheaper than iPad, the iPad2 with similar benefits, and which wanted to enter the tablet market smaller, dominated by the Android operating system developed by Google.
